Hezbollah Maintains Rocket Barrage From Lebanon as IDF Dismantles Hamas Terror Sites in Gaza

Latest Developments

Hezbollah terrorists fired more than 100 rockets at Israel on June 13, a day after they launched more than 200 rockets in the group’s  largest escalation of the war so far. Two people were lightly injured by shrapnel from the rocket barrages. Footage showed one of the Hezbollah rockets striking near a house in the Golan Heights. Fires were also ignited by the barrages. Mayors in northern Israel called for “decisive” action against Hezbollah amid its increasing attacks. Hezbollah’s latest escalation came as the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) continued operations to dismantle Hamas terrorist infrastructure in Gaza, underlining the attempts by the two Iran-backed terror groups to squeeze Israel on its northern and southern fronts.

Expert Analysis

“Iran wants to entrap Israel in a two-front war waged by its proxies in Lebanon and Gaza — Hezbollah and Hamas. At a time when the U.S. is trying to impose a ceasefire in Gaza, Hamas has less incentive to agree now that its Hezbollah ally is trying to pull Israel into a new war in Lebanon. The failure of the international community to disarm Hezbollah — as demanded by UN Security Council Resolution 1701, passed after the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah conflict — has never been more apparent.” — Mark Dubowitz, FDD CEO

“Israel is facing a growing multi-front challenge as Hezbollah escalates attacks on northern Israel and the IDF fights terror in Gaza. Hezbollah’s decision to increase the range of its attacks and the number of cities in Israel that it is targeting may force Israel to respond strongly to the ongoing attacks.” — Seth J. IDF Eliminated ‘Dozens’ of Terrorists and Dismantled 50 Terror Sites in Gaza

As the northern front heated up, the IDF eliminated “dozens of gunmen” in a raid on the Zaytun and Sabra neighborhoods in Gaza on June 13. The raids targeted areas near the IDF-controlled Netzarim corridor that runs across the Gaza strip south of Gaza City. The IDF also dismantled fifty terrorist sites during the raid. Among the sites uncovered was an 800-meter tunnel discovered in the area of Juhor ad-Dik, which abuts the corridor. The thirty-meter deep tunnel was demolished by Israeli combat engineers.
