The agreement signed last month by Israel and Lebanon was hailed by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio as “the beginning of the beginning” in the process of disarming Hezbollah and ending the conflict between the two countries. It’s indeed a promising document, but so were U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701 and the November 2024 ceasefire.
