Key Hezbollah Commander Eliminated in Israeli Strike

Latest Developments

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on July 3 that it had eliminated Muhammad Nimah Nasser, a key Hezbollah commander, in a strike in Tyre, Lebanon. Also known as Abu Nimah, the commander was responsible for launching missile and rocket attacks against Israeli territory from southwestern Lebanon. According to the IDF statement, Nasser served as the commander of Hezbollah’s Aziz Unit since 2016.

Nasser is the third Hezbollah commander to have been killed since the terrorist group attacked Israel following the October 7 atrocities executed by its ally, Hamas, The Times of Israel reported. The other eliminated commanders were Sami Taleb Abdullah, the commander of the Nasr regional division who was killed by Israel in June, and Wissam al-Tawil, the deputy head of the terror group’s elite Radwan unit who was killed by Israel in January.

Hezbollah responded to the incident by firing several rockets at Kiryat Shmona and other areas in the Galilee panhandle, as well as at the northern Golan Heights, with no injuries reported.

Expert Analysis

“The Israelis have again managed to take out another key Hezbollah field commander —comparable to a one-star general in Western terms. Such targets represent decades of accrued battlefield and organizational experience and are not soon replaced. For all its swagger, Hezbollah is hemorrhaging personnel.” — Mark Dubowitz, FDD CEO

“The killing of Muhammad Nimah Nasser is a major setback for Hezbollah. Hezbollah has carried out thousands of attacks on Israel since October 7, seeking to create a multi-front war that will prevent Israel from defeating Hamas. Hezbollah has sought to carry out this endless war on Israel without facing major repercussions. The loss of another senior commander will be seen as a humiliation for the Iranian-backed terror group.” — Seth J. Frantzman, FDD Adjunct Fellow

Nasser Was a Key Hezbollah Commander

The IDF statement noted that Nasser “was the counterpart of Sami Taleb Abdullah, the commander of the Nasser Unit, who was eliminated last month,” emphasizing that “together, they served as two of the most significant Hezbollah terrorists in southern Lebanon.” Additionally, the statement pointed out that Nasser “directed a large number of terror attacks toward Israel both during and before the war, and he previously held several central roles within the Hezbollah terrorist organization.”
