FDD Scholar to Testify Before Congress Friday on Threat of Islamist Foreign Fighters

WASHINGTON – Thomas Joscelyn, senior fellow for the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, will testify before the House Foreign Affairs Committee Friday on “Islamist Foreign Fighters Returning Home and the Threat to Europe.” Joscelyn, the senior editor of FDD’s Long War Journal, will discuss the threat of small-scale attacks from the Islamic State or its sympathizers in Europe and the United States. He will also discuss other threats to the West emanating out of Syria, including al Qaeda’s official branch, Jabhat al Nusrah.

He will testify before the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia and Emerging Threats. 

Joscelyn has been described as “one of the most trusted authorities on the al Qaeda network because of his encyclopedic knowledge of terrorist biographies.” He work is regularly featured in The Weekly Standard and he has recently appeared on CNN and Fox News Channel.

In 2007, Joscelyn published a monograph titled Iran’s Proxy War Against America, which details Iran’s decades-long sponsorship of America’s terrorist enemies. In 2008, he completed an exhaustive review of the Guantanamo Bay detainee population, cataloging and analyzing thousands of pages of declassified documents.
