Iran is once again convulsed by nationwide protests—millions of Iranians from all walks of life out in the streets attempting to throw off the oppressive 47-year-old Islamist regime.

That regime has responded with extreme brutality—killing, injuring, and jailing thousands, likely tens of thousands. With most communications cut by the regime, one can only estimate.

President Trump has urged the demonstrators to “keep protesting,” vowing to punish their tormentors. “Help is on the way,” he said.

But is it? At this moment, a great deal remains unclear.
