After multiple incursions into Nato airspace this month, Russia seems to be threatening World War Three. Last week, a top Putin ally suggested the UK “should be nuked off the map”. Meanwhile, Russia’s former president, Dmitri Medvedev, warned Americans “that Russia can use weapons a bomb shelter won’t protect against.”
The Kremlin understands that the West fears an “Armageddon scenario,” and it has used nuclear saber-rattling for blackmail to deter Ukraine’s allies from providing military aid and to intimidate Kyiv into surrendering.
