Israel Eliminates Gaza Terrorist Cell Posing as World Central Kitchen Aid Workers

Armed Terrorists Mimicking Aid Workers: The IDF announced on August 12 that it had eliminated five armed terrorists in the central Gaza city of Deir al-Balah who were posing as aid workers from the World Central Kitchen (WCK) nongovernmental organization (NGO). The airstrike targeted a vehicle bearing WCK’s emblem after Israeli air reconnaissance assets identified the occupants as terrorists armed with rifles who disguised themselves by wearing yellow vests.
WCK Condemns Terrorists Using Its Emblem: Hours after the IDF released footage of the incident, WCK confirmed that it “was contacted by Israel, confirming that “the vehicle and persons of interest were not affiliated with” the organization. The aid group added that it “strongly condemn[s] anyone posing as WCK or other humanitarians as this endangers civilians and aid workers.” In April 2024, the IDF mistakenly targeted a WCK vehicle in Gaza, killing seven aid workers, later dismissing two brigade fire commanders involved in the incident from their posts and expressing “deep sorrow” over the strike.
Increased Deir al-Balah Operations: The IDF issued evacuation notices to Deir al-Balah residents on July 20, with military operations intensifying in the area. In addition to the strike targeting terrorists posing as WCK employees, the IDF said on August 12 that it had carried out an airstrike in Deir al-Balah that eliminated several Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists.
