Israelis Rally Around Iran Strikes, According to New Poll
Latest Developments
- Rising Lion Backed: Israel’s surprise launch of air strikes on June 13 against the Iranian regime’s nuclear and missile programs, dubbed Operation Rising Lion, is supported by over 70 percent of the Israeli public, a new Agam Labs poll found. The poll, conducted on June 13 and June 14, found that only roughly 16 percent of Israelis are opposed to the operation and a further 14 percent undecided.
- U.S. Support Sought: Asked if they think Israel can destroy the Iranian nuclear infrastructure and completely remove the military threat posed by Iran without U.S. military assistance, 24 percent of respondents said yes, 31 percent said no and 44 percent were undecided. Still, 46 percent of Israelis were in favor of Israel striking Iranian nuclear facilities, even without U.S. backing. Sixteen percent of Israelis prefer diplomatic solutions to the standoff over Iran’s uranium enrichment.
- Positive Public Mood: Asked what their most dominant feeling has been since Operation Rising Lion began, 35 percent of respondents said “fear,” 28 percent said pride, 24 percent said “hope,” and only 14 percent answered “despair.” Overall, 52 percent of respondents reported positive rather than negative emotions from the operation, and 51 percent believe the campaign will make Israeli society more united.
FDD Expert Response
“Israel surprises outsiders by consistently rating as one of the world’s happiest countries. This happens not despite the conflicts it faces but, in part, because of them. Backs to the wall, Israelis have nowhere else to go and have chosen to live — to the fullest — on their feet rather than dying on their knees. The rising global tide of antisemitism has only reinforced this determination. Israel has so far thwarted Iran’s plans to carry out the largest attack on the Jews since the Holocaust, so Israelis are rightfully breathing a sigh of relief. But the end is far from over.” — David May, Research Manager and Senior Research Analyst
“In less than two years, Israeli society has once again demonstrated its capacity to transcend internal divisions and unite in the face of a common foe. Israel’s national resilience is a significant factor that Iran and its network of proxies have consistently underestimated since October 7. It is precisely this unity and resolve that may provide the Jewish state with the strategic advantage necessary to achieve its goal of removing the nuclear threat posed by Iran.” — Joe Truzman, Senior Research Analyst and Editor at FDD’s Long War Journal
