Terrorist Rockets Target Northern Israeli Town

Latest Developments

Terrorists in Lebanon fired 10 rockets toward the northern Israeli border area of Rosh HaNikra, Israeli media reported on March 7. “Nine rockets were intercepted and the tenth rocket apparently fell in an open area. The IDF responded to the launches with artillery fire,” Ynet reported. The reports did not say which terrorist group was responsible, although Hezbollah has been behind most attacks from Lebanon. The latest assault follows several days of increasing rocket fire by Hezbollah. The terrorist group fired 30 rockets toward the northern Israeli city of Kiryat Shmona on the evening of March 5. Hezbollah has launched thousands of rockets at Israel since October 7, when it chose to support the Hamas attack on Israel.

Expert Analysis

“Hezbollah attacks on March 7 targeted Israeli border communities and illustrate that the Iranian-backed terrorist group continues to believe it can attack with impunity. Hezbollah attacks killed an agricultural worker this week in northern Israel, an example of how the group terrorizes communities along Israel’s northern border. Israel must be supported in its demands for Hezbollah to leave the border region, and Hezbollah must stop its attacks on Israel.” — Seth J. Frantzman, FDD Adjunct Fellow

“Hezbollah continues targeting northern Israel as part of its strategy to support Hamas and other Palestinian terrorist groups in Gaza. Although this strategy may have been logical for Hezbollah at the onset of the conflict, it has become evident that it has not hindered the Israeli military’s operation in Gaza.” Joe Truzman, Senior Research Analyst at FDD’s Long War Journal

Israel Downs Explosive Drone

Israeli forces downed an explosive-laden drone launched by Hezbollah that flew into Israeli airspace from Lebanon on March 6, the IDF said. No one was injured in the incident. On the same day, the IDF used fighter jets to target a military structure used by Hezbollah in Lebanon. In addition, the IDF used artillery to strike another threat in Lebanon.

The drone attack comes amid heightened tensions between Israel and Hezbollah due to the terrorist group’s daily attacks on Israel. A Lebanese media report on March 7 said that there were increased chances of war breaking out if a diplomatic deal is not secured by March 15. Israel Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned on March 5 that the prospects of war were getting closer if Hezbollah attacks do not stop.
