U.S. Treasury Department Veteran Daniel Glaser Joins FDD’s Center on Sanctions and Illicit Finance
(Washington, D.C., Feb. 6, 2017) – Daniel L. Glaser, a 20-year U.S. Treasury Department veteran who most recently served as Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing in the Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, has been named to the board of advisors of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies’ (FDD) Center on Sanctions and Illicit Finance (CSIF).
As Assistant Secretary, Glaser was responsible for helping to formulate and coordinate counterterrorist financing and anti-money laundering policies and strategies for the department.
“Danny Glaser is a Treasury legend who has helped drive the nation’s anti-money laundering, counter illicit finance, and sanctions efforts for two decades – through intellectual innovation, dedication to mission, and principled leadership,” said Juan C. Zarate, former Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor for Combating Terrorism and current CSIF Chairman. “I’m honored to be able to work with him again to advance thought leadership in this critical space along with the CSIF board of advisors, the most impressive collection of U.S. experts in the field of economic power and national security.”
During his extensive career in countering terrorist financing, Glaser was responsible for developing and coordinating policies to protect the U.S. and international financial systems from abuse related to money laundering, terrorist financing, and the financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
“Danny brings two decades of remarkable public service over three administrations at the U.S. Treasury Department where he was instrumental in developing and deploying instruments of financial coercion against America’s enemies,” said FDD CEO and CSIF Director Mark Dubowitz. “We are honored to have someone with Danny’s exceptional experience, creativity and decency join CSIF and our bipartisan team of former government officials and private sector experts.”
From 2004 – 2011, Glaser served as Treasury’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes. He also served as the Head of the U.S. Delegation to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the premier international anti-money laundering and counterterrorism financing body.
Prior to that position, Mr. Glaser served as the first Director of the Treasury Department’s Executive Office of Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes and as Senior Counsel for Financial Crimes in the Office of the General Counsel.
He also served as an attorney for the U.S. Secret Service.
On Monday, Glaser and Zarate will open the FDD and CSIF conference, “Securing American Interests: A New Era of Economic Power,” at 9:45 a.m. at the St. Regis Hotel in Washington, D.C.
