Veteran National Security Expert John Hannah Joins FDD as Senior Counselor
WASHINGTON – The Foundation for Defense of Democracies announced that John Hannah, former non-resident senior fellow with FDD and national security advisor to the Vice President, joined the organization full time as its Senior Counselor. Hannah also has served as deputy director of The Washington Institute for Near East Policy and president of Global Futures LLC. Hannah will provide high-level national security and foreign policy expertise across a variety of FDD’s projects and appear in the media to discuss these issues.
“John Hannah is a supremely talented and consummate professional. He has long experience at the highest levels of foreign policy-making. We’re both proud and excited that he is joining the FDD team full-time,” said FDD President Clifford D. May.
During the first term of President George W. Bush, as the Vice President's deputy national security advisor for the Middle East, he was intimately involved in U.S. policy toward Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Lebanon. In President Bush's second term, Hannah was promoted to the role of the Vice President’s national security advisor.
Hannah worked as a senior advisor on the staff of Secretary of State Warren Christopher during the administration of President William J. Clinton.
FDD Executive Director Mark Dubowitz said, “John is a great American whose service to our nation through Republican and Democratic administrations exemplifies the best in public service. As all those who know him can attest, he is one of the finest people and has one of the sharpest minds in Washington.”
“I’m very pleased to be expanding my relationship with FDD,” Mr. Hannah said. “I look forward to working even more closely with its extraordinary team to develop the research and policies that are essential to securing America’s interests in an increasingly complex, dangerous world.”
Hannah is regarded as a trusted source for government officials, Members of Congress and their staff and the media. His op-eds have appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, and ForeignPolicy.com.
