FDD Executive Director to Testify Before Congress Thursday on Iran Nuclear Deal and its Implications

WASHINGTON – Mark Dubowitz, executive director of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, will testify before the House Foreign Affairs Committee Thursday afternoon on “Examining What a Nuclear Iran Deal Means for Global Security.” He will also be participating on a panel discussion earlier in the day on the November 24 deadline for a nuclear agreement between Iran and the P5+1.

Dubowitz will be joined in the hearing before the Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa by former CIA Director Gen. Michael Hayden and Karim Sadjadpour of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Thursday morning’s panel discussion will also feature Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), Rep. Ted Deutch (D-Fla.), Amb. Eric Edelman, former Deputy Director General of the IAEA Olli Heinonen, and former senior advisor on Iran at the State Department Ray Takeyh. The group will discuss the “Looming Deadline and Unanswered Questions: What’s next for the P5+1 and Iran?”

Dubowitz is an expert on Iran and sanctions and has testified before Congress and advised the U.S. administration, Congress, and numerous foreign governments on Iran and sanctions issues. He heads FDD’s Center on Sanctions and Illicit Finance and is the co-author of 15 studies on economic sanctions against Iran.  He also is co-chair of the Project on U.S. Middle East Nonproliferation Strategy, a nonpartisan project co-chaired by five nonproliferation and sanctions experts.  Dubowitz is a lecturer and senior research fellow at the Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto, where he teaches and conducts research on international negotiations, sanctions, and Iran's nuclear program.

Dubowitz has recently co-authored op-eds on the prospects for the Iranian nuclear negotiations in The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post. He has regularly appeared on CNN and Fox News Channel.
