Biography
Stephen Cowen is a lawyer at Jones Day. Stephen teaches a seminar at the University of Chicago Law School on Constitutional Law relating to national security, counterintelligence, and covert action. Prior to Jones Day, Stephen was Senior Counsel at the Boeing Company in Chicago, where his responsibilities included serving as the lead lawyer for Boeing’s innovation and venture capital unit (covering investments in artificial intelligence, mobility, and autonomous technologies), and managing litigation matters and data loss prevention issues. Earlier in his career, he was a partner at the law firm Bartlit, Beck, Herman, Palenchar & Scott, LLP in Chicago. Stephen graduated from the University of Chicago Law School with high honors after graduating magna cum laude from Harvard College. He also holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, with concentrations in finance, accounting, and economics. While in law school he was Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif. Following graduation, he clerked for Judge Douglas H. Ginsburg on the DC Circuit and Justice Anthony M. Kennedy at the U.S. Supreme Court. A former Navy officer, Stephen is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan.
