Biography
Andrew Gabel is a practicing lawyer at Freshfields LLP, where he specializes in national security-related international trade law, and a nonresident fellow at Project 2049. Mr. Gabel is a member of the Freshfields National Security Working Group and regularly advises clients on matters involving the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), U.S. Treasury outbound investment rules, U.S. export controls (both EAR and ITAR), and U.S. sanctions. Prior to pursuing law, he served as a special advisor on Sen. Tom Cotton’s national security team, where he focused on China affairs through the lens of U.S. economic, industrial, and technology policy. He previously worked as a research analyst at Foundation for Defense of Democracies and, before that, in the Bechtel Corporation’s in-house global treasury and corporate finance group. He is a graduate of the Duke University School of Law and Kenyon College.
