Jim Smythers

Biography
Jim Smythers has been on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence for four years as a Professional Staff Member. He serves as staff designee to Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) and as a Committee budget monitor for covert action. Prior to joining the Committee in April 2007, he worked for the Director of National Intelligence as a legislative affairs liaison officer. Jim is a former Captain in United States Army. He served a combined eight years on active and reserve duty with deployments to Kuwait and South Korea. His assignments include serving as an intelligence analyst in the J2 Crisis Management Directorate of the Defense Intelligence Agency during Operation Iraqi Freedom. After leaving active duty, Jim was a senior consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton. (This bio is current to when the participant joined FDD’s National Security Network.)
