Hunter Deeley

Biography

Hunter Deeley is an attorney advisor with the Foreign Investment Review Section (FIRS) in the National Security Division (NSD) of the U.S. Department of Justice. He supports NSD’s efforts to combat national security threats arising from foreign investment through FIRS’s role as the DOJ’s representative on the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). He is the recipient of several Assistant Attorney General Awards for Excellence for his significant contributions to the mission of the National Security Division, including for his recent work on the development of regulations to implement the Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act of 2018 and the second published penalty in the history of CFIUS. Hunter joined the Department through the Attorney General’s Honors Program. Prior to attending law school, he worked as an associate with Armitage International. He also taught English in Oita, Japan as an assistant language teacher in the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. Hunter is a graduate of the American University Washington College of Law and the University of Virginia. (This bio is current to when the participant joined FDD’s National Security Alumni Network.)
