FDD REACTION TO TRUMP ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 14, 2024 – We at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) were concerned to hear about the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

Whatever our political leanings, we must all condemn acts of violence against candidates running for office in a democratic society.

American politics has reached a dangerous crossroads. The vilification and dehumanization of the other has been tolerated for too long—by extremists on both sides. It’s time to step back from the brink. The safety and security of America depends upon it.

Our thoughts and prayers also go out to former fire chief for Buffalo Township, Corey Comperatore, whose last act was shielding his wife and daughters from the assassin’s bullets. May his memory be a blessing.
