FDD Welcomes Counterterrorism and Military Analysts as Adjunct Fellows

“Since our founding shortly after the September 11 terrorist attacks, the Foundation for Defense of Democracies has been intensely involved in research and public debate over the policies and practices that can best defeat militant Islamist terrorism,” said FDD President Clifford May.  “We are pleased to have Bill Roggio and Olivier Guitta join our growing team of experts and analysts.  Both are creative and insightful thinkers who are also top-notch writers and communicators.  Their ideas and insights will make a great contribution to our organization and our mission.”

As the editor of the Long War Journal, Roggio covers strategic and operational issues relating to the war on terrorism in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Lebanon, and Iraq, as well as al-Qaeda’s operations, tactics and strategy.  A former signalman and infantryman in the US Army and the New Jersey National Guard, he embedded with U.S. forces in Iraq in 2005, 2006 and 2007.  He embedded with the Canadian Army in Afghanistan in 2006.

Mr. Roggio’s articles have been published in The Weekly Standard, The National Review, The New York Post, The Toronto Times and Die Weltwoche.  At the US Air Force’s Contemporary Counterinsurgency Warfare School at Hulbert Field, he regularly presents on the media and embedded reporting.
