Reaction to Extension on Iran Talks Falls Along Partisan Lines


Mark Dubowitz, executive director of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, said that lawmakers might choose to design “sanctions-in-waiting” that could be imposed on Iran’s economy in such a way as to “deter Iranian cheating” on a nuclear deal and increase pressure on Tehran to agree to terms pushed by the United States.

“There may be other approaches that seek to impose a more immediate tidal wave of new sanctions and further restrict the administration's ability to use suspensions, waivers, special rules, and executive orders to do an end-run around Congress,” Dubowitz said.
