US House Members Introduce New Legislation to Expand Iran Sanctions

Jonathan Schanzer, Vice President of Research for the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and FDD Executive Director Mark Dubowitz recently wrote an article in the Wall Street Journal urging the administration and Congress to close loopholes that Iran continues to exploit in sanctions law, particularly those dealing with SWIFT.

Schanzer told WJW that the U.S. should seek to make sanctions “as airtight as humanly possible” and he highlighted the willingness of congressional officials to put additional pressure on the Iranian regime.

“I think that Congress seems very eager to do whatever it can,” Schanzer said. “At the very least, we can make it very difficult for the Iranians to procure, move money and operate so that they feel the pressure.”
