IDF Shells Syrian Army Buildings in Israel-Syria Buffer Zone: On Wednesday, the IDF announced that it shelled, with tanks and artillery, Syrian army buildings located in the buffer zone between Israel and Syria that violated the 1974 separation of forces agreement between the two countries reached after the Yom Kippur War. The agreement established a buffer zone and called for the disengagement of forces and the release of prisoners of war. The IDF’s statement said that it “considers the Syrian army responsible for everything that happens in its territory and will not allow attempts to violate the separation agreement.” According to Yoav Zitun, military correspondent for Israeli news website Ynet, the IDF struck four buildings in two locations after recently detecting Syrian army troops storing weapons and observation equipment in the buildings.
IDF Troops Raid UNRWA Headquarters in Gaza City, Find Large Quantity of Weapons: The IDF on Wednesday reported on its operations in Gaza City, where the 99th Division is operating. Soldiers from the Commando Brigade and the Multidomain Unit carried out an overnight raid on UNRWA headquarters, which the IDF says is used by both Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad for attacks on soldiers in the central Gaza Strip. After enabling civilians to leave the area, the troops entered the building, killing some terrorists at close range, detaining others, and finding a large quantity of weapons. In the Shejaiya neighborhood in the eastern part of Gaza City, soldiers from the 98th Division killed dozens of gunmen over the past day and destroyed a tunnel. In Rafah in southern Gaza, troops from the 162nd Division eliminated a number of terrorists in the past day, also finding weapons and destroying tunnels. In addition, the Israeli Air Force launched a number of drone strikes in central Gaza, killing several Hamas members, including some who worked on tunnels and some who were involved in anti-tank fire at IDF troops.
Apparent Israeli Airstrike Kills Hezbollah Leader Hassan Nasrallah’s Former Bodyguard: On Tuesday, after Lebanese media reported an Israeli airstrike targeting a vehicle on the Beirut-Damascus highway, Hezbollah announced the death of Yasser Qranbish, who previously served as the personal bodyguard of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. According to the Alma Research and Education Center, “various reports” indicate that Qranbish may have been a senior Hezbollah operative or even a commander in Unit 4400, which is responsible for transferring weapons to Lebanon. Hezbollah later launched a barrage of about 40 rockets at Israel, killing Noa and Nir Baranes from Kibbutz Ortal, whose vehicle took a direct hit. Hezbollah stated that this was a response to the death of Qranbish, though Israel has not taken responsibility for the strike that killed him. His death brings the Hezbollah death toll during the Gaza war to at least 364.
Israeli Defense Ministry’s Rehabilitation Department Treats More Than 9,000 Wounded, Launches PTSD App: On Tuesday, Israel’s Defense Ministry published data showing that since October 7, its Rehabilitation Department has treated 9,250 wounded men and women, 3,600 with psychological reactions. A total of 70 percent are reserve soldiers; 51 percent are under the age of 30, while 31 percent are between 30 and 40. A total of 37 percent of those wounded in the war have limb injuries, 9 percent have internal injuries, 7 percent have spinal cord injuries, and 12 percent have injuries to the head, eyes, or ears. The department has made changes to its procedures for intake of the wounded and now, all are recognized as such within 48 hours and receive the rehabilitation services they need without having to go before a medical committee. The department has also launched an app called “Guide to PTSD,” which has been downloaded more than 20,000 times, as well as training software for those treating the wounded.
