IDF Spokesman: Hezbollah ‘Bringing Us to the Brink’ of Possible ‘Wider Escalation’: On Sunday, in an English-language press briefing, IDF spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari discussed the situation on Israel’s northern border, stating that Hezbollah has fired more than 5,000 rockets, explosive drones, and anti-tank missiles since it joined “the war that Hamas started on October 7.” According to Hagari, “Hezbollah’s increasing aggression is bringing us to the brink of what could be a wider escalation – one that could have devastating consequences for Lebanon and the entire region.” He added that “because of Hezbollah’s refusal to comply with UN Security Council Resolution 1701,” its military infrastructure, its weapons, and its firing at Israel from south of the Litani River, and also because of “Lebanon’s failure to enforce 1701 on Hezbollah,” Israel “will take the necessary measures to protect its civilians — until security along our border with Lebanon is restored.”

IDF Chief of Staff: Army Seeking to Expand Enlistment, Haredi Community Has Opportunity for Change: On Friday, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi took a tour of the central Gaza Strip and held a situation assessment with Southern Command head Maj. Gen. Yaron Finkelman; Brig. Gen. Barak Hiram, commander of the 99th Division, which has been fighting in central Gaza; and reserve unit commanders. Referring to the issue of military service for haredi (ultra-Orthodox) men, Halevi stated, “We want to expand as much as possible the base of those who come to enlist,” adding that “there is an opportunity for change in the haredi community as well; it is not wide enough, but there is a desire for change. We want to go forward … because it is necessary.” In the meantime, Israel’s army radio reports that because of the urgent need for additional soldiers, the IDF is working on establishing a new reserve division comprising tens of thousands of volunteers who have already received exemptions from reserve duty because they are over 40 years old or for other reasons. The new division is expected to be called the 96th Division and to be made up of five reserve brigades.

Hezbollah Claims Responsibility for 28 Attacks on Israel from June 13-16: On Sunday, the Alma Research and Education Center reported on the situation in Israel’s north between June 13 and 16, noting that Hezbollah claimed responsibility in the previous 72 hours for 28 attacks on Israel, using suicide drones, anti-tank missiles, and high-trajectory fire, including Falaq and Grad rockets. There were also drone infiltrations in the Golan Heights and projectiles fired at Moshav Ya’ara in northern Israel, for which Hezbollah did not claim responsibility. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for an attack on the Ramat David military base on June 14, for a drone attack on a target in the Haifa port the same day, and for a cruise missile attack on a target in Haifa on June 15. Hezbollah fired anti-tank missiles on June 15 toward the Meron air traffic control base as well as drones toward a military base in western Galilee. In the previous 72 hours, the IDF struck Hezbollah targets including launch sites, a weapons depot, and terror infrastructures near Yaroun, Odaisseh, Ramyeh, Aitaroun, Kafr Kila, Deir Seryan, and Jarmaq, Lebanon.

COGAT: IDF Implementing Daily ‘Tactical Pauses,’ Six Bakeries Are Producing 1.5 Million Pitas Daily: On Sunday, COGAT, the Israeli entity coordinating humanitarian aid for Gaza, provided an update on aid entering the strip. According to COGAT, on Saturday, 43 aid trucks were coordinated via the Erez West crossing. In addition, the contents of more than 1,000 trucks are still on the Gazan side of the Kerem Shalom crossing, awaiting collection. COGAT added that “as part of our ongoing efforts to increase the volumes of humanitarian aid entering Gaza and following additional related discussions with the UN and international organizations,” there will be a “local, tactical pause of military activity” every day “for humanitarian purposes” from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. on the road leading from the Kerem Shalom crossing “to the Salah al-Din Road and then northwards.” In a separate announcement, COGAT stated on Sunday that six bakeries, which together produce 1.5 million pitas every day, are now operational in northern Gaza.
