Heavy Fighting in Shejaiya, Jabaliya, and Khan Younis: Intense battles continued overnight in Shejaiya and Jabaliya in northern Gaza and in Khan Younis in the south. According to an IDF announcement on Thursday, soldiers in all three locations are receiving support from the Israeli Air Force, and paratroopers eliminated “many terrorists” in the past day in northern Gaza. In Shejaiya, IDF forces battled the Hamas Shejaiya Battalion, dismantling its main site of operations inside a school compound. In Jabaliya, after a sniper fired at IDF forces, the air force launched a strike against him. In Khan Younis, IDF forces found Hamas weapons and destroyed a weapons storage facility, two tunnel shafts, and a rocket-launching pit.
Ten Soldiers Killed, Most in Shejaiya Ambush; Two Hostages Confirmed Dead: On Wednesday, the IDF announced the deaths of 10 soldiers. Seven were killed by an explosive charge in an ambush in Shejaiya, and two members of the rescue team were killed by a second explosion. Among the 10 fallen soldiers were two senior commanders and several officers. One of these was Col. Yitzhak Ben Basat, the highest-ranking IDF officer killed to date in the ground offensive. A total of 116 IDF soldiers have died in Israel’s ground operation in Gaza. Also on Wednesday, two kibbutzim confirmed the deaths of residents taken hostage by Hamas whose bodies are being held by the group. Tal Chaimi, 41, a member of Kibbutz Ner Yitzhak’s security team, was previously thought to have been taken alive to Gaza. According to new evidence, he was killed on October 7. Joshua Mollel, 21, a Tanzanian agricultural intern living on Kibbutz Nir Oz, was taken to Gaza and murdered there.
Hamas Gunmen Surrender at Gaza Hospital; Hamas Rocket Fire Total From Humanitarian Zone: 116: On Thursday, the IDF published photos and a video of Hamas operatives who surrendered at a hospital. According to the announcement, the Shin Bet and the 460th Brigade arrested dozens of terrorists who exited a Gaza hospital and took them for interrogation by the Shin Bet and Unit 504 of Aman, the Military Intelligence Directorate. In another statement, the IDF named the hospital as Kamal Adwan, which is in northern Gaza, and stated that “over 70 terrorists came out of the hospital with weapons in hand.” The IDF also announced on Thursday that since the humanitarian zone in Gaza opened on October 18, Hamas has launched 116 rockets from the zone, 38 of which fell in Gaza.
IDF Arrests Hundreds in Multi-Day Raid in West Bank City of Jenin: The IDF, together with the Shin Bet and the Border Police, carried out a raid in Jenin that started Tuesday and was still ongoing on Thursday morning. In the raid, troops arrested hundreds and seized equipment including weapons and ammunition. The troops also destroyed explosive-manufacturing labs, tunnel shafts, and rooms used by local operatives to monitor IDF operations. As the raid began, the army launched a drone strike targeting terrorists who threw explosives at IDF soldiers, killing four of the terrorists. Last night, the IDF launched another drone strike at operatives in Jenin who were throwing explosives. At one point during the Jenin raid, the IDF reported that over 400 buildings had been searched.
