Sen. Voinovich’s Backing of Bolton Sends Right Message

Foundation for Defense of Democracies Applauds Endorsement

Washington, D.C. (July 20, 2006) – The Foundation for Defense of Democracies applauds Ohio Senator George Voinovich's endorsement today of John Bolton as the United States ambassador to the United Nations.

“Ambassador Bolton has been a clear and decisive voice at the United Nations and a breath of fresh air for its stale bureaucracy,” said Clifford May, President of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.  “Since his recess appointment in August of 2005, Ambassador Bolton has proven to be a forceful and effective advocate for freedom––freedom from tyranny and freedom from the scourge of terrorism.”

“Senator Voinovich is correct.  To oppose Ambassador Bolton's continued service would send the wrong message to our enemies,” May continued.  “Militant Islamists would see it as yet another retreat by the United States, and would be further emboldened in their war against the free world.

“The Foundation for Defense of Democracies applauds Senator Voinovich's endorsement and hopes that his colleagues in the Senate will likewise support Ambassador Bolton should they have the opportunity to do so.”
